Abstract
Computer literacy plays an important role in EFL curricula. It is essential that EFL course designers and curriculum developers be aware of the current levels of computer literacy of EFL teachers prior to the implementation of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) in EFL courses. This study explored the perceptions of EFL teachers of their computer literacy levels. To this end, 263 EFL teachers participated in the study. Instrumentation included questionnaires and in-depth semi-structured interviews. The findings indicated that the participants’ levels of computer literacy were not adequate for the implementation of CALL. The EFL teachers also did not make use of a wide range of computer applications. It was further revealed that there are several factors which would impede the improvement of EFL teachers’ computer literacy. Finally, it was depicted that the EFL teachers held very positive attitudes toward improving their computer literacy.
