Abstract

(J Clin Anesth. 2024;94:111415. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jclinane.2024.111415) Effective management of perioperative pain is crucial for patients and surgeons due to the potential adverse effects of the body’s physiological response to surgical pain. Proper perioperative analgesia not only improves patient recovery but also decreases the incidence of chronic postoperative pain. Regional anesthesia is vital for perioperative pain control, reducing opioid use, and enhancing pain management. However, the limited duration of single-shot nerve blocks is a significant drawback. To address this, anesthesiologists have been exploring ways to extend the benefits of single-shot regional anesthesia, such as adding perineural adjuncts to local anesthetics (LA).
