Abstract

Two-gap capillary plasma generator is a realistic alternativeto the conventional capillary in electrothermal launchers. It isdesigned to accomplish two goals: repetitive operation and a compactpower supply system in which capillary itself serves as a closingswitch. A theoretical model is proposed to investigate the triggerprocess of this kind of generator. Both ablation case and no ablationcase are considered. Trigger delay time is also theoreticallyanalysed. The calculation shows that capillary wall ablation cangreatly change the behaviour of trigger discharge arc and plasma flowgenerated. Trigger delay time can be drastically shortened.
