Abstract

Abstract Observations on the transmissions of two very low frequency radio stations with very long paths across the Pacific Ocean showed considerable phase disturbance at the time of the explosion. The results were consistent with a rapid drop of the night-time lower ionosphere from 85 km to about 68 km and a steady recovery over a period of about 4 hours.
