Abstract

ABSTRACTA soluble impure acetylcholinesterase (AChE), (3.1.1.7), capable of forming aggregates in low ionic strength environment was isolated from rat brain. As a result of aggregation the enzyme activity decreased and, on the other hand the diffraction increased. Preincubation of the enzyme with several organic solvents (methanol, butanol, heptane, isoamil alcohol, dimethylsulfoxide) leaded to dissociation of the aggregates, elimination of the diffraction and a remarkable enhancement of the activity. The dissociation of the enzyme molecules was most likely caused by the diluting. Therefore the aim of the present work was to study the effect of different organic solvents on the AChE activity.
