Abstract

Objective To explore the changes of nitric oxide(NO),malondialdehyde(MDA)and superoxide dismutase(SOD)in hippocampus of rats under blasting wave in confined space. Methods 144 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups:hermetic group, patency group and control group. The level of NO,MDA and SOD were measured with interval time of 1h,6h,12h,24h,3d and 7d after blasting in confined space and open terrain. Results The NO level increased gradually on the 6th hour and reached the peak level on the 3rd days after blasting wave. The difference is obvious with the control group in 24h(P<0.01).There is notable difference between hermetic group and patency group in 12h(P<0.01).The MDA level increased gradually on the 6th hour and reached the peak level on the 24th hour after blasting wave.which differed significantly with the control group in 24h(P<0.01).The SOD activity increased gradually on the 1st hour, and decreased on the 12th hour. There was notable difference between hermetic group and patency group in 12h(P<0.05).Conclusion The cytotoxic effects of free radicals may be important factors on the brain damage following blasting wave in confined space. Key words: Confined space; Blast wave; Stress; Hippocampus
