Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of Kang’ai injection combined with PC chemotherapy on Karnofsky performance scores (KPS), serum T cell subsets and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) levels in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Methods Fifty-eight patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer were divided into experimental group and control group according to treatment protocols, with 29 cases in each group. Patients in control group received PC regimen (paclitaxel+ carboplatin), and patients in experimental group were given PC chemotherapy combined with Kang’ai injection. The curative effect and adverse reactions of the two groups were statistically analyzed. The KPS score, serum T lymphocyte subsets (CD4+, CD4+/CD8+, CD8+, CD3+) and CEA levels were compared between the two groups. Results There was a significant difference in the total effective rate between experimental group [51.72% (15/29)] and control group [44.83% (13/29)], P>0.05. Before treatment, there was no significant difference in KPS scores between the two groups (P>0.05); compared with the control group, the KPS score of the experimental group was higher after treatment (P 0.05); after treatment, there was also no significant difference between the two groups in CD8+ level (P>0.05), but compared with the control group, CD4+ and CD4/CD8, CD3 levels in the experimental group were higher, and CEA level was lower (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reaction in experimental group [24.14% (7/29)] was lower than that in control group [51.72% (15/29)], P<0.05. Conclusions Kang’ai injection combined with PC chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer can effectively reduce the adverse reaction, improve KPS scores significantly, regulate serum T cell subsets, reduce serum CEA levels, and has more significant effect.
