Abstract

Numerical solutions for the radiative transfer equation are obtained in millimeter and optical wave regions by the use of extended spherical harmonics method to investigate the importance of incoherent effect on propagation of electromagnetic waves in hydrometeors. Detailed directional patterns of incoherent intensities are obtained in a very wide range of distances which covers from the first‐order multiple scattering region to the diffusion region. Solutions in the case of linearly polarized incident wave are also obtained. The difference of the multiple scattering effects between millimeter and optical waves, the difference of the multiple scattering effects between linear and circular polarizations, etc., are discussed.
