Abstract
Summary An exploratory study was conducted to ascertain the effects of a stress-producing film on the performance of Ss administered the Holtzman Inkblot Technique and the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale immediately after viewing the film. Statistical analyses revealed no differentiation between experimental and control Ss on the Taylor, whereas five Holtzman variables successfully discriminated between the two groups, thereby demonstrating its ability to detect differences in state anxiety. The five Holtzman variables were: Popular, Movement, Barrier, Human and Hostility. In addition, correlational data between the Holtzman and the Taylor resulted in support of concurrent validity between the two measurements as regards trait anxiety.
