Abstract

Forty serologically distinct strains of Rhizobium , isolated from six species of Arachis: A. hypogaea (cultivated species), A. duranensis, A. prostrata, A. villosa, A. glaberata and A.marginata (wild species); were studied for their symbiotic efficiency on the cultivated speciesof Arachis (A. hypogaea) . In pot trials the strains showed a wide variation in the ır efficiency on A.hypogaea var. TMV 8 and among them several efficient strains were identified. The strains differed in their physiological characteristics. However, no significant correlation was observed between any of the physiological properties of the strains and their symbiotic efficiency.
