Abstract

Life coach and former practising midwife, Ruth Hadikin has written a book for healthcare workers about coaching as a means of personal and business development. Coaching is described as a partnership between equals where the coach need not have expertise in the coached person’s field of work. The book provides an introduction to various models and styles of coaching. There is an extensive chapter on the psychology of coaching that makes reference to key theorists such as Maslow and Rogers. However, their theories are not explored in great detail. The concept of emotional intelligence is a recurrent theme and, given that this is in vogue in nursing leadership programmes, this book could be a useful aid to those on health management and leadership programmes.
