We found that pyridinium perchlorate is extremely active catalyst for phosphonylation of various C=X electrophiles, namely aldehydes, ketones, aldimines, ketimines, isocyanates, and others by trialkylphosphites, to give the corresponding α-substituted phosphonates in high yields.
