Abstract
The present investigation was undertaken to examine effect of walking on blood pressure of elderly people (fifty males above 60 years of age). Based on blood pressure during pre-test administration, general, normotensive, hypertensive and Hypotensive ranges were identified. Observations were recorded on all the above four groups after specific 6 weeks walking program. The study revealed that 68% of people who exercise daily had a normal blood pressure. The normotensives maintained their blood pressure, the hypertensives and hypotensive showed a tendency towards the normal pressure, after six weeks of specified walking exercise programme. The subjects who practiced meditation had a high percentage of normotensives as compared to those who did not practice meditation. A 60% of subjects who exercise daily had no disease and were healthy. The blood pressure of people above 60 years of age showed a tendency towards normalcy with increasing period of exercise. Hence, walking exercise can be effective in controlling the blood pressure of aged persons.
