Abstract
The effect of solution viscosity on ultrafiltration flux was studied. It was found that the relationship between ultrafiltrate flux J and inverse of solution viscosity 1 ɳ is not exactly linear but depends on solution viscosity. Experimental results show that the variation of flux with viscosity can be divided into three different areas: in the area with lower solution viscosity, an infinitely small increase of viscosity will bring about an abrupt decrease of permeate flux; in the middle viscosity area, the decrease of flux with viscosity would be moderate, and in the higher viscosity area, the permeate flux is nearly independent of the viscosity.
