Abstract
Learning is the stepping stone of human future generating behavior, regarded as a process of adjustment of the individual to own self and to the society along with environment. Education enables the individual to adjust himself to the world of Nature and Values, highlighting adjustment of a physically and mentally developed individual to intellectual, moral and volitional environment. It is a fact that human being is born in a biological heritage living in a social environment where the involvement of society at large is the prime factor. The educational achievements of the present sequel depended on certain socio-economic parameters which were examined, parents education, economic condition; facilities available within the family are factors of education, comparing boys and girls at the secondary stage of education, both from rural and urban areas. The study was conducted in Howrah District of West Bengal, two schools each were chosen from rural and urban areas. Boys and Girls were selected; who were attending class IX & X, the Secondary Stage of Education. Placed under the lens of critical examinations and “Facts through Figures” elaborate that the urban and rural students do not differ in academic achievement, those who are enjoying different family facilities. The academic achievement of urban and rural students is influenced by their economic condition. The academic achievements of urban students are not affected by their parental education while the rural students are affected by their parental education. The academic standard of urban students both boys and girls are gradually increasing, whereas the rural students both boys and girls are gradually deteriorating.
