Abstract

Nitrous oxide (NO) reduction of online precalciner‐type kiln systems by coal reburning was investigated experimentally using a one‐dimensional furnace system. NO reduction can reach as high as ∼70–80% in the tested reburning zone stoichiometry range (SR2) of ∼0.6–1.0. The NO reduction efficiency of bituminous coal is lower than that of anthracite (0.5 < SR2 <0.65). A higher temperature can lead to a higher NO reduction efficiency since 0.6 < SR2 < 0.7. There is an exponential correlation between the NO reduction efficiency and residence time, which may be influenced by several parameters, such as reburning zone stoichiometry and reburning coal characteristics. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Environ Prog, 35: 439–446, 2016
