Abstract

Lateral load tests were performed on a raker pile group to determine the lateral load capacity. The behaviour of a pile group subjected to lateral load was studied through laboratory experiments with aluminum pipe pile with outer diameter of 25.4 mm and thickness of 1 mm. In this experimental study, clean river sand was used as a soil medium. Two-, three-, and four-raker pile groups were driven into a ground consisting of loose sand. The load-carrying capacity of each pile was measured based on the lateral deflection. The obtained raker pile capacities were compared with vertical pile group. Based on the study, it is observed that the front raker pile carried more load than the rear raker pile. Also, the raker pile groups are better than vertical pile groups in terms of load-carrying resistance.
