Abstract

Background: Physical therapists play an important role in the management of multisystem impairments of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including problems with motor, cognition, behavior, and social interaction. It has been reported that a period of regular exercise intervention may be beneficial for alleviating these ASD-specific impairments and improving functions in individuals with ASD. However, limited evidence is currently available specifically for children and adolescents with ASD. Furthermore, there is a lack of a recommended physical activity protocol for this population.
