Abstract
With the hydrogen atom as an example, the effect of photospheric thermal radiation on the upper layers of stellar atmospheres is studied. It is shown that when the radiation temperature exceeds 5000 K, the rates of stimulated processes in free-bound, bound-bound, and free-free transitions are comparable to the corresponding rates of the spontaneous processes. Photoexcitation and photoionization from excited states also play an important role.
