Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during early winter (rabi) seasons of 1987 and 1988 to study the effect of phosphorus and sulphur on growth and yield of toria [Brrsica canzpestris L. ssp. oleifera (Metzger) Sinsk. var toria]. The highest seed yields of 16.9 and 14.0 qha in 1987 and 1988 irspectively were obtained with P O 60 kgha, which were significantly more than of 20 and 0 kg PI ha. bimilarly, application of sulphur also increased the seed yield significantly over the control, with a margin of about 1.6 qha in both the years. Oil and protein contents of toria increased significantly up to P @ 40 kgha in both the years. Sulphur (50 kgha) increased the seed protein content from 24.5 to 25.1% and oil content from 41.1 to 42.2%. Sulphur application also increased iodine index. Unsaturated fatty acid was improved by phosphorus and sulphur. 2--7
