Abstract

Signal in multiconductor PLC (Powerline Communication) system is affected by fading, noise and crosstalk due to mutual coupling of the conductors. In this paper, a 3x3 MIMO OF DM power line communication system is considered to evaluate the bit error rate (BER) performance following an analytical approach taking into account the total accumulated effect of noise (mainly background noise and impulsive noise), fading, effect of adjacent conductors (crosstalk) and mutual coupling between the conductors of a 3-phase line. The analysis of bit error rate performance is presented numerically. The performance result shows that a 3x3 MIMO PLC system is affected by crosstalk. The analysis is carried out using MatLab simulation. The penalty due to the combined effect mentioned above is approximately $5dB$ at a bit error rate of $10^{-6}$ when the line length is considered to be $100m$ where the contribution of impulsive noise is significant. The BER performance improves with the improvement of fading variance factor $0_{g}$ and Rician k- factor of fading parameter.
