Abstract

Abstract In the present work, epoxy matrix with natural fibers (Banana, Flax, Sisal) were used to join the two adherends. A FEM based model was developed to simulate the epoxy + fiber composite lap-shear joints. The lap-shear joints with different volume fractions of the fibers were modelled using ANSYS software. The results suggested that the maximum shear stress increased with increase in fiber volume fraction whereas the minimum shear stress decreased with increase in fiber volume fraction. It is observed that the maximum shear stress of flax reinforced joints is higher than the banana and sisal reinforced epoxy joints.
