Abstract

Objective To investigate the production of TFG-β1, VEGF and IL-6 by human hepatocellular carcinoma cells HepG-2 activated by LPS. Methods The levels of TGF-β1, VEGF, IL-6 mRNA and protein before and after the treatment of LPS were determined by RT-PCR and Western-blot. After inhibition of the TLR4, their levels were determined again. Results The levels of TGF-β1, VEGF, IL-6 mRNA and protein were all upregulated after the treatment of human hepatocellular carcinoma cells HepG-2 by LPS and then downregulated after the inhibition of TLR4. Conclusion As the exogenous ligand of Toll-like receptor 4, LPS can promote the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines TGF-β1, VEGF and IL-6 in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells.
