Abstract

The influence of 60Co γ irradiation on the optical properties of dielectric narrow band transmittance interference filters was investigated. The optical transmittance spectra of the filters were recorded before and after irradiation. γ ray doses in the range 1–8 MGy were used. It was found that γ irradiation leads to a change in the optical thicknesses of the layers. Calculations of the number of displaced atoms per unit volume of ZnS led to the conclusion that the observed long wavelength shift in the peak transmittance is caused by the increase in the refractive index of the ZnS layer.
