Abstract

In vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes has enormous potential in assisted reproductive technology, but its use has been limited due to suboptimal maturation systems. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and serum are routinely added to maturation medium; however, FSH in vitro can lead to oocyte abnormalities and serum can induce cellular stress and ultrastructural damage to the cell. The objective of this study was to evaluate the quantity and quality of bovine embryos produced from oocytes matured in defined or serum supplemented medium.
