Abstract

It is shown using a simple variational technique in the case of an exchange interaction with a finite range eta that the surface ferromagnetic instability for values of the electron-electron interaction for which the bulk is still paramagnetic, which exists in the case of a zero-range interaction, may disappear for large enough values of the range eta .
