Abstract

A field study was conducted at the Experimental Farm, Department of Horticulture, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat with a view to find out the effect of different growing media on pseudobulb production of hybrid orchid cv. Oncidium and terrestrial orchid cv. Spathoglotis. The results of the experiment revealed that among the different treatments, growing media composed of Coconut fibre + Charcoal significantly increased the number of pseudobulb per plant (7.6) in case of Oncidium followed by Coconut fibre + Brick pieces (5.0). While in case of Spathoglotis, media composed of Loamy soil + Sand + Coconut fibre + Shredded wood produced significantly higher number of pseudobulb per plant (10.2) followed by Coconut fibre + Shreded wood (9.8).
