Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of adding chicory fructans in feed on growth performance, intestinal length and structure of the broiler chicken. Inulin or oligofructose improved (P< 0.05) body weight gain, feed conversion, carcass weight, carcass percentage and increased the gut length of female birds. The beta fructans also reduced (P<0.05) serum cholesterol and abdominal fat of broilers. Inulin as well as oligofructose treated females had a more dense jejunum villi distribution in the small intestine.
