Abstract

Effect of γ-ray irradiation on polycrystalline β-PbF 2 was investigated by X-ray, Raman scattering and electrical conductivity. With an increase in the dose of γ-ray irradiation, the half line width of Raman peak increased, suggesting the formation of Frenkel defects. On the other hand, the electrical conductivity decreased with an increase in the irradiation dose. The motion of the formed interstitial F - ions is presumed to be hindered by unidentified defects formed simultaneously by the irradiation.
