Abstract

The research aims to know the effectiveness of learning mathematics with Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Approach to critical thingking skills of student class VII SMP Negeri 3 Pandak academic year 2013/2014, to know which the critical thingking skills that is better among high, medium, and low student motivation, to know interactions between application of learning model and student motivation. Kind of the research is a quasi-eksperimental. The population of this research was all students of class VII consist of 4 classes in SMP Negeri 3 Pandak academic year 2013/2014. The research sample of 2 classes was taken by cluster random sampling technique. The instrumens of the research consist of documentation, critical thingking math test,observation and questionnaire. The data analysis uses descriptive analysis and two-way ANOVA. The results of the analysis in the research are : 1) Learning mathematics with Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Approach is more effective than conventional approaches to critical thingking, 2) Critical thingking skills of student who have high motivation to learn are  better than students with medium and low learning motivation, critical thingking skills of students with medium learning motivation are better than students with low learning motivation, 3) There is no interaction between learning model and motivation to learn of students based on the critical thingking skills. Thus, the suggestion of the result of this research is learning mathematics with Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Approach can be implemented to improve student’s critical thingking.
