Abstract

The passing of Edward E. Carmeliet entrusts to our memories the life and the work of a brilliant cardiac cellular electrophysiologist, indeed, one of the most brilliant of our time. Not only did he have a major innovative impact on our understanding of cardiac bioelectricity in health and disease, he also was a revered mentor who influenced the work of scholars worldwide with his scientific competence and his unique personality.
