Abstract

SUMMARY This paper presents the situation of library education in Peru during the last decades of the 20th century, particularly education in the area of cataloging and bibliographic control. Both an historical view and the current situation are explained to give a general panorama of education in the areas of cataloging, classification, organization of electronic materials, cataloging networks, and the like. A short panorama of the near future is also given. At the same time, not only professional education is presented, but also nonprofessional, continuing, and on-the-job education in Library and Information Science (LIS) in Peru.
