Abstract

In this issue we will identify the heritage and history of the development of Social Education in Portugal, as a theoretical conceptualization and consequently as a profession, but similarly the processes of professionalization and professionality. We will present the knowledge and competencies essential to professional performance, from the perspective of the various invited authors. This discussion will be based on the theoretical and practical recognition of Social Education as a professional field and also underlines the relevance of teaching-learning, mediation, ethics and deontology and diversity in different and peculiar times.
