A founder of the International Visual Sociology Association and its first Journal, International Journal of Visual Sociology, she has supported the interdisciplinary visual studies movement since the early 1970s. She teaches and researches in sociology, culture, communications and media, and produces photographs. Books include Visual Sociology and Human Rights and Media.
