Abstract

Crosslinking efficiency of Triallyl isocyanurate (TAIC) in electron beam (EB) induced crosslinking of a highly crystalline polymer namely Nylon 6 (N6) has been investigated. Graded increase in physico-chemical properties like tensile strength, flexural strength and hardness with TAIC concentration was observed. Synergistic effect of TAIC and absorbed dose was noticed to a certain absorbed dose. DSC studies revealed that presence of TAIC and EB irradiation lead to decrease in crystallinity of N6. Significant decrease in water absorption capacity of N6 was observed on crosslinking. Swelling studies revealed that in presence of TAIC, N6 predominantly undergoes crosslinking on EB irradiation.
