Abstract
Objectives: Adipositas is a severe problem in cardiac surgery. Early mobilization is of upmost importance in these patients. Especially with concomitant diseases like diabetes mellitus and nicotine abuse. Therefore a profound sternal closure technique is needed. In these patients the classical sternal wire technique in different modifications has a limit. Sternal titan plates maybe an alternative, but these are cost intensive and time consuming. We used in severe obese patients a new easy and fast sternal closure system with cable-ties and analyzed the data.
