Abstract

The paper entitled ‘Eastern Representation in Western Arts: Exoticization, Eroticization, and Dehumanization’ focuses on how the East (Asia and Africa and many other colonized countries) has been represented as stereotype modes. Such stereotypes can be understood in terms with the representation. The work focuses on how western art and literature exoticized, eroticized, and dehumanized eastern culture. The key term associated with my research is representation. I have selected from late 19th century and early 20th century tradition of art and literature of western society. Though the term ‘west’ is generalized European and American space, I focus on the British colonial tradition. The generalization is appropriate in Saidian sense, a great author of the term Orientalism that is the western ideological construction of the east.
