Abstract
Earthwatch is once again recruiting people to help with field research expeditions in earth and marine sciences, archaeology, anthropology, the life sciences, and the humanities. Sponsored by Earthwatch, a nonprofit organization, the projects are funded by laypeople who participate as actual working members of the expedition team under the supervision of the professional researcher.Beginning with 39 people in 1971, nearly 2600 Earthwatch volunteers have joined research teams in support of over 300 scientists conducting research in 20 states and 45 countries. This season, volunteers are needed to survey the Boston Harbor Islands, measure the effects of off‐road vehicles on the beach and sand dunes of Fire Island, explore the coral reefs of Jamaica in the West Indies, and examine the possibilities of astronomical alignment of Bronze Age stone circles on Scotland's Machrie Moor.
