Abstract

This brief paper describes the present status of early childhood education in Turkey. Special attention was given to lack of provisions for early childhood education for the children of rural as compared to the urban areas. The role of the teacher as a community educator in rural areas was particularly stressed and provisions for the Gecekondu's children were mentioned.
