Abstract

In this paper, systematic distributions of void fraction and interfacial area concentration at the different axial positions along the flow direction in developing and fully developed region were measured by using double-sensor point electrode probe in upward gas-liquid two-phase flow through a vertical pipe (50mm i.d.). Besides two types of bubble generators were applied in this study: one is wall bubble-generation; the other is center bubble-generation. The distribution of interfacial area concentration was similar to those of the void fraction distribution. However, there were some differences of the peak position for the distribution between the void fraction and the interfacial area concentration. Based on both data, bubble diameters can be estimated and compared as spherical bubble. It revealed that the bubbles might be coalesced or broken up in the developing region of the flow. Such data would be useful for appropriate modeling of interfacial area transport.
