Abstract

The importance of dynamical selection rules observed in p̄p, annihilation at rest into two mesons is emphasized. Since these selection rules are independent of spin and angular momentum excitations of the two mesons in the symmetry leading to these selection rules must be SU(3). A SU(3) analysis based on a simple kinematical model for p̄p annihilation shows that the selection rules allow to reduce the number of SU(3) invariant couplings from eight to two. This points to the possibility that quark dynamics might eventually be described in simple terms even in the confinement region.
