Abstract

This report summarizes the findings from the dynamic laboratory tests that were performed on shale specimens that were recovered from the proposed site of Building 9720-82. All testing was performed in the Soil Dynamics Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin (UTA). Three shale specimens were tested using combined resonant column and torsional shear (RCTS) equipment. The specimens are listed in Table 1. The purpose of these tests was to evaluate the influence confining pressure, excitation frequency, and shearing strain amplitude on the shear wave velocity, Vs, shear modulus, G, and material damping ratio in shear, D, of the shale specimens. Descriptions of the laboratory equipment, test and QA procedures, and complete test results for each specimen are included in two separate volumes.
