Abstract

The design of a dual split ring triple-band antenna for wireless local area net-work (WLAN) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) application is presented in this paper. The antenna is designed to be used for the WLAN operating at 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz bands and the WiMAX operating at 2.5/3.5/5.5-GHz bands. The proposed antenna is based on a 1.6 mm-thick FR4 epoxy substrate whose dimensions are 25 mm × 38 mm. In this design, there is a rectangular split-ring slot implanted inside a rectangular patch. And another split-ring slot is embedded inside the first split ring slot. The inclusion of this dual split-ring slot and the U-shaped slot in the partial ground plane is used to give resonance at two additional frequencies and also decreases the return loss. The dimensions of the patch, the ground, and the three slots are optimized to obtain these desired functional frequency ranges.
