Abstract

The authors present an assessment of Rhodanian Languedoc over the period 20000/ 13000 BP. They show the originality of the regional Upper Palaeolithic, on the border of an eastern, Gravettian world, and a western, Magdalenian world. The regional sequence, more complex than appeared from earlier studies, in no way conforms to a long linear process, in the manner of a slow mutational evolution from the Solutrean towards the Late Magdalenian.
