Abstract

This article presents an intervention to be used with clients who are considering divorce but have not yet made a decision. The intervention combines guided dialogue with experiential activities and rituals designed to facilitate and then highlight the client's decision-making process. The therapist creates space for clients to explore the complex mix of feelings and thoughts through their dreams, past and present. This exploration incorporates a focus on cognitive-emotional links, values, support contexts, and multiplicity of options. The intervention sets the stage for decision-making, as well as for client readiness to pursue some dreams and grieve the loss of others.
