Abstract

This study investigates the performance of circular plate anchors under vertical cyclic loads in dense sand. A numerical analysis implementing SANISAND-MS constitutive model is employed to capture the accumulated displacement under cyclic loading. The variation in mean load, cyclic load amplitude and number of cycles has been considered in this study. The numerical results are compared against corresponding centrifuge experiments. The comparison has revealed suitable modification on SANISAND-MS constitutive parameters (soil stiffness and dilatancy) is required to model the accumulated displacement of sand under vertical cyclic loads. Using the modified parameters, the numerical model can sufficiently capture the trend of varying cyclic load characteristics (mean load, cyclic load amplitude and number of cycles) on the accumulated displacement. However, the study also shows that the model is unable to satisfactorily capture the monotonic part of accumulated displacement prior to cyclic loading.
