Abstract

In order to measure an unstable plasma, a double probe method with a high frequency multistep pulse voltage composed of square waves was developed and applied to measure detonation waves. Corresponding to the 6 probe potentials given by this composite pulse, the probe currents in detonation waves were measured in an oscillogram as 6 curves for a sufficiently slow sweeping time. From this oscillogram we could obtain a probe characteristic at an arbitrary time and then the electron temperature, ion density etc. continuously during the time that the detonation waves passed by the probe. By this method one can measure an unstable plasma very rapidly, for example in 10-6 sec. for a plasma with 1012/cm3 electron density, and continuously for relatively long time from about 100 µs to 20 ms.
