Abstract

A 73-year-old woman presented to the spine clinic with low back pain, neurogenic claudication, and radiculopathy. Panoramic anteroposterior X-rays demonstrated degenerative scoliosis with a primary left-convex lumbar curve estimated at 43.2° and a secondary compensatory thoracic curve of 35°. In addition to multilevel central canal and lateral recesses stenosis, the magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine demonstrated significant atrophy of the paraspinal muscles at the concave side of the curve, which were more marked at its apex (level L2/L3) (Figure).
