Abstract

A predictive method for the separation factor in dissociation extraction, using n-octanol as a solvent, is suggested. The extent of hydrogen bonding of the solute with the solvent and the steric hindrance to the functional group play sometimes a decisive role in deciding the extent of separation. This is illustrated by an analysis of some model systems.
