Abstract

A previous paper confirmed a method for calculating critical ground level concentrations from a continuous momentum plume emission source. However, use of the correlations developed for steady state releases results in inaccurate ground level concentration predictions for short term release situations. Therefore, additional tracer-gas experiments were performed in order to measure critical ground level concentrations from intermittent safety valve vent releases. These experimental results led to the development of a calculation procedure for estimating critical ground level concentrations resulting from releases for various lengths of time (up to 15 min) and for estimating critical ground level concentrations for averaging times longer than the release time.
